The Competition Plus program at BLDC is designed for dancers who are fully dedicated to pursuing excellence in dance and maximizing their dance experience. This comprehensive program offers additional technique classes, more convention experiences, and increased performance opportunities, catering to dancers for whom "dance is their thing." Here's an overview of the program's goals, requirements, and commitments.
Program Goals:
The Competition Plus program aims to provide students with the education and experience necessary to pursue dance at the collegiate and professional levels. Past participants have successfully transitioned into college dance programs, joined college dance teams, and pursued professional dance careers.
Technique Class Requirements:
The program places a strong emphasis on providing a well-rounded dance education. Dancers enrolled in Competition Plus participate in more required weekly technique classes than those in the standard program. These classes focus on skill-building, strength, flexibility, and technical proficiency.
Team Requirements:
Accepted dancers are placed in a combination of Standard Competition team dances and Competition Plus dances, covering various styles including tap, jazz, ballet, lyrical/contemporary, and hip-hop. The minimum number of required dances can vary based on a dancer's training needs, but is usually around 8-9. Solo, duo, and trio opportunities, if offered, are in addition to the required group dances.
Competition Plus Dances:
Competition Plus dances are exclusively performed by dancers committed to the program. These dances compete not only at standard competitions but also at additional required Competition Plus events. Typically, Competition Plus dances are performed more frequently than standard dances, providing additional performance experience.
Additional Rehearsals:
Additional rehearsals refer to any rehearsals scheduled outside of a class’s regular weekly rehearsal time. These rehearsals are mandatory and play an essential role in learning choreography and preparing dancers for competition, as the CP season typically begins earlier than the standard competition schedule.
Guest Choreography Opportunities:
Dancers have the opportunity to work with guest choreographers on competition pieces, offering valuable exposure to diverse choreographic styles. Participation in guest-choreographed pieces requires an additional financial commitment and is not guaranteed.
Commitment:
The Competition Plus program requires a high level of commitment, focus, and eagerness to learn. Dancers must prioritize technique classes, rehearsals, and performances as well as independent work outside of class to fully benefit from the program's offerings.
Tuition & Financial Responsibilities:
Yearly tuition is divided into 9 monthly payments, starting at approximately $495 per month for unlimited classes. Additional financial responsibilities include competition fees, convention fees, costume fees, team fees, and travel expenses.
Please note that the unlimited tuition fee does not cover private lessons or solo, duo/trio tuition.
