Tap is a unique and exciting style of dance characterized by using the sounds of tap shoes striking the floor as a form of percussion. Tap has been featured on Vaudeville stages, in Broadway shows and in major motion pictures for many, many years. This dance form has a rich history with many well-loved notable figures. Bill “Bojangles” Robinson, the Nicholas Brothers, Sammy Davis Jr., Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire and Shirley Temple are just a few of the stars who made tap dance popular through their films and stage performances. Today, tap dance is widely enjoyed and studied by students all over the world.
The students enrolled in tap classes at BLDC study a graded tap syllabus as well as supplementary methods to emphasize proper technique, rhythm, timing, musicality and precise tap sounds. |
