CHALLENGE #1: Preparation Practice
|
What’s the Topic?
Time to get out those notebooks and video cameras! There’s nothing worse than going into a class and having no idea what’s going on, it’s like going to school without doing any homework. Using tools such as notebooks and video cameras will help students practice at home so they are prepared for class. Class time will run more smoothly and they will feel great about their progress!
What’s the Challenge?
Dancers are challenged to record or write down their steps for each routine every week for the duration of the challenge (and beyond!).
This challenge will run for 6 weeks, September 21 - October 31, and calendars will be accepted November 2 - November 5.
Parents are to sign their dancer’s calendar once a week only if they have completed this task.
Tips for Dancers:
• If recording in class wasn’t an option, do it as soon as possible! The longer you wait, the more chance you have at forgetting the steps.
• If you are unsure of what you did in class, ask to record a friend
• Make sure you have a good recording that you can practice with later
• Don’t let it pile up! Use your time wisely so practicing isn’t such a big task.
Tips for Parents:
• Check in with your dancer! Talk to them about how their recording, writing and at home practicing is going on a daily basis.
• If you have a younger dancer, video taping them maybe be easier than having them write out all of their steps.
There is value in having them write their steps, but perhaps a few corrections a week is a better start.
• If they seem to be struggling with remembering their routines at home, please check in with their teachers for guidance immediately.
This is a group effort and we want the best experience possible for ALL dancers!
