In the event of another COVID-19 lockdown: We have experienced great success with our health and safety protocols at the studio in terms of limited exposures and quarantines, and I want to thank you for your cooperation. Last season we made the decision to invest extensively in the purchase of new equipment that would make remote classes possible and productive in the event of a lockdown. All of our classrooms are equipped with laptop computers, cameras, headsets, and televisions in order to continue providing a valuable dance experience for your dancer, whether it be “in or out” of the classroom. At this time we are fully prepared for a smooth transition to online classes and would continue with our normal schedule. We are confident that our students will continue to benefit from our instruction while staying connected with their teachers and peers on a daily and/or weekly basis. I want to thank you in advance for your continued patience and support as we follow the necessary measures to keep our students, staff and BLDC families safe.
Prep your home: We realize available space and appropriate flooring may be an issue at home. That’s okay! During last year's lockdown we had dancers dancing in their bedrooms, living rooms, garages, outdoors and more! Rest assured, our teachers will be taking this into consideration when planning their class material. We will not ask your dancer to leap across the house and into walls! If possible, move any larger furniture aside in your available space. Consider recruiting your dancer/s to clear small items or help “design” their new dance space. This will make them feel included and aid in getting them excited about the new change. If your dancer is enrolled in a tap class, a sheet of plywood can be used to improvise for flooring. Encourage your dancer to continue dressing for class to get them in the right mindset.
Prep your dancer: Remind them that a lockdown is only temporary. This is a safe way for us to stay connected and continue learning together. Many of them have already experienced dancing from home and/or navigating Zoom in their dance or academic lives so they are more prepared than they might feel. They will respond to your response, so staying calm and positive in this situation will help immensely!
